Bright Red Triangle is looking for Edinburgh Napier student entrepreneurs to enter the Santander Universities Entrepreneurship Awards 2018. This year, we are encouraging and supporting students to apply and are offering a £1,000 prize fund split between categories below.
This is defined as a business or idea with hardware and/or software central to the business value proposition.
This is defined as a business or idea that has value proposition that is not primarily based around hardware and/or software.
The winners of the above categories will be put forward to represent Edinburgh Napier University in the national competition and the chance to win a share of £90,000 equity-free seed funding, Santander mentoring and support from business experts and exclusive access to the Santander acceleration week to help your business idea thrive.
Santander reward entrepreneurs by offering cash prizes, mentoring and start-up support and have so far given away more than £340,000 to start-ups and small businesses since 2011.
Steps to apply
Download the Santander Business Model Canvas Guide below, and read it through carefully. Contact our team here if you have any questions at all or require any advice on how to fill out your Business Model Canvas.
When you’re ready, download the Santander Business Model Canvas below and complete it for your business.
The word limit for each section is as follows:
- Value proposition – 220 words
- Customers – 220 words
- Cost structure – 60 words
- Revenue streams – 60 words
To enter, we require a two-minute video, hosted online (e.g. Youtube or Vimeo), that will include:
- 1. An overview of your business.
2. Your customers.
3. Your product and/or service and the impact it has on customers
4. Your business model and its viability.
5. What the impact of winning the competition would be.
You can find full judging details for Santander contained within the information pack above. At BRT, what we will be looking for is originality, creativity, effectiveness, relevance and clarity of pitch.
If you need some tips or advice on what to include, there are loads of websites that give great examples of what to include. Of course, if you’re super stuck, you can get in touch with our team here and we can point you in the right direction.
Some video rules…
- • Entries must have been created yourself or in collaboration with other Edinburgh Napier students
• Videos should be no more than 2 minutes in total running time
• Videos should be narrated or subtitled in English
You must be the original author of everything in your video or have permission to use copyright-protected material. So, while we want you to be creative, you need to be careful about what you include. If you’re thinking about using existing music or images, keep in mind that someone else may own a copyright to that material. You’ll need to get the copyright owner’s permission to use it.
Submissions using non-licensed, copyrighted musical, visual, or literary properties without legal permission are ineligible. In addition, you must have consent from all people appearing in your video.

Once you have completed your Business Model Canvas & uploaded to your two-minute video to an online platform, the last step is to complete our online application form.
Make sure you have your Business Model Canvas ready to upload, plus the link (and password, if applicable) to your two-minute video pitch handy. You will be asked to submit these in the online application form.
