On 3 October 2018, Bright Red Triangle teamed up with Dr Hock Tan, a lecturer in Edinburgh Napier University’s Business School, to run a workshop aimed at bridging the gap between business theory and industry. The aim of the first of a series of workshops was to enrich the current curriculum, by providing students from a variety of disciplines a platform to engage with local and international businesses.
Seven entrepreneurs and business representatives were faced with a room full of students who were eager to tackle the business challenges that lay ahead.
All the businesses present made brief presentations, outlining their current business activity, the environment they operate in, and the challenges facing their industry and, more specifically, their companies.
The challenges set out varied in their complexity, ranging from internationalisation and market penetration, to improving the customer journey and expanding market share. The final session will be held in early November, where the students will have to present back their findings to the businesses.
What students will take away from this workshop will depend on their approach to each challenge.
We are hopeful that by running these events, we are providing a curriculum that goes beyond the lecture theatre, providing a glimpse into the boardroom.
