The Bright Red Sparks competition is here to celebrate the innovative and enterprising students, staff and alumni of Edinburgh Napier University.

We’re giving away £12,000 in prizes to our brilliant community.

Plus… Shepherd and Wedderburn LLP one of Scotland’s leading law firms have added to the Bright Red Sparks prize pot with £17k worth of legal support for our Bright Ideas/ Business for Good/ Staff Superheros and Going for Growth categories!

With six categories to enter, there’s something to fit businesses of all shapes and sizes.

PLUS we are hosting a very jazzy awards dinner on 26th May to announce our winners and throw a startup community party #HellYeah.


Keynote Speaker

Kevin Dorren is a graduate from Edinburgh Napier receiving a HND in Hotel, Catering & Institutional Management in 1989.
He will be sharing his fascinating story from Scotland to Silicon Valley and back and his Journey from technology to nutrition.
Kevin now operate’s the UK’s third largest diet company with over 200,000 customers, selling the company and then buying it back in 2015 to form the basis of a group of e-commerce FMCG businesses including diet, coffee & sports nutrition.

We invite the BRT community to celebrate with us at the first Bright Red Sparks Awards dinner. The evening will be a mix of inspiring entrepreneurial stories, business pitches, delicious food and general shenanigans.

Applicants… what happens next

1- Applicants will find out by 11th May if they have been shortlisted

2- Shortlisted applicants will go forward to external judging

3- External judges will select two – three category finalists

4- All finalists will be informed by 18th May

5- The winner of each category will be announced live at the awards dinner on 26th May
