Patryk Zak & Bonobo Third Sector Consulting

January 25, 2019

Recently, our team have been interviewing members of our BRT community – talking about the challenges and charms of being an entrepreneur.

Meet Patryk Zak – Managing Director of Bonobo Third Sector Consulting, and one of our fellow members here at Bright Red Triangle. Our Incubator Manager at Craiglockhart campus, Wendy Wu, had the pleasure of interviewing Patryk to learn more about his experiences of being an entrepreneur so we could share them with you – our community.

Patryk Zak, Managing Director

What did you study?

Business Management & Marketing

Name of your business?

Bonobo Third Sector Consulting

Nature of your business?

Non-profit organisation

What is your business idea?

Free tailor made consulting to charities

Why did you choose this business idea?

The reason why we started this business is to foster a connection between young people (students) and charities. We wanted students to gain valuable experience to help them with their future career, while at the same time providing charities with an alternative to expensive consulting services. Our long-term goal is to build close relationships that last.

How did you get the idea to start your business?

Patrick (my business partner) and I, while applying for graduate programmes had noticed a lot of big companies require experience. Fortunately for us, we had the experience needed but with some of our friends that was missing. We felt it was unfair and decided to start our own company. That way graduates can come out of University better prepared for the start of their career.

What are the biggest obstacles you have faced as an entrepreneur?

We face obstacles every day, one of them is being such a young person and approaching CEOs from charities to meet and arrange potential projects.  A lot of charities don’t believe we are completely free and try to catch us out on details. But we pride ourselves in only telling the truth – our services are completely free of charge. It takes time, but after our meetings the clients gain trust and we start projects with them.

What is your entrepreneurial motto?

If you don’t try it, you will not be able to see the outcome

What has been the most exciting moment so far?

Becoming an official legal company.

What one piece of advice would you give to an aspiring entrepreneur?

If you have an idea, believe it and make it happen, rather than watch others around you. I can promise you it’s the start of an amazing journey.

What support have you received so far as an entrepreneur?

Before staring we received help from various business mentors to assess our model and see where we need to make changes.
