Social Bite would like to extend an invitation to the students of Napier University to visit their Village Project between the 18th and 23rd of May.
Social Bite is a leading social enterprise based in Edinburgh, with a core aim of eradicating homelessness in Scotland for good. They believe that ‘Scotland is a small enough country, a collaborative enough country and a compassionate enough country where no-one should have to be homeless’.
Social Bite have recently embarked on a project that will begin to tackle homelessness in Edinburgh. The social enterprise has built a village that aims to offer support and opportunities to residents, as well as accommodation.
Social Bite said it hopes this will provide a new approach to homelessness, where people can have a permanent home, rather than rely on hostels or such like. As well as having a place to stay, there will be a base where residents can meet socially and receive support on aspects such as job opportunities and self development.
The Village will also have close connections with Edinburgh College, who look to help develop and enhance the skills of the residents. The project is part of several programs that Social Bite are currently developing , that will help 800 people find a home over the next 18 months.
The site was developed on empty land in Edinburgh and is made up of eleven two-bedroom houses. The houses were constructed before being set up in Granton, before residents move in this summer.
The village is now almost complete, with an incredible effort from so many inspiring people. Cyrenians, who are in partnership with Social Bite, have now identified the first residents who will be moving into the Village towards the end of May.
Social Bite would like to invite all Edinburgh Napier students and staff to celebrate the launch of the Social Bite Village. They will be hosting a series of tours of the village between the 18th and 23rd of May, between 10am and 7pm daily. This is a fantastic opportunity to show your support to the community, and do your part to end homelessness in Edinburgh. Follow the link below to book in!
