Welcome to our new BRT Junior Consultants

November 16, 2017

After a rigorous recruitment process of online application, video interview and assessment centre – we invited our successful candidates, a diverse group of Edinburgh Napier University students, to participate in our four-week Fitness Programme before officially coming on board as Junior Consultants for our BRT Consultancy.

Our Fitness Programme is designed to encourage connection, creativity and experimentation in which learners work within a ‘safe space’ to consider the development of their own and others’ ideas. For our Junior Consultants taking part, it gives them an opportunity to dive into the unknown and work on a practice project in teams alongside a Senior Consultant who mentors and guides the team, whilst working to the brief for a client on a real-life challenge.

The programme itself is a challenge, however it is not meant to be competitive by any means. Junior Consultants are put into teams with other members who often have very opposite personality traits. They are trying to navigate the parameters of the Senior Consultant-Junior Consultant relationship for the first time, whilst also working for a client. Junior Consultants learn design thinking techniques and the importance of empathy so they can take a step back and understand a problem properly before jumping to conclusions too quickly and making recommendations for their clients – this can often be frustrating for those who are keen to just get the job done. Meanwhile, everyone participating in the programme is juggling multiple priorities throughout the four-weeks – university commitments and often part-time jobs as well. It is a tough process to say the least.

Wednesday 1 November 2017 saw the last of our Fitness Programme sessions for our newly recruited Junior Consultants. In this final session, each team presented their recommendations for their clients to a room packed full of other Junior Consultants, Senior Consultants, clients and BRT staff. Everyone was impressed with the work they had achieved in such a short space of time, and we’re sure you’ll agree – you can take a look at some of the wonderful teams who presented below.

Yesterday we held the formal induction for our new Junior Consultants. This was where we discussed the formal processes and procedures for the operations of BRT Consultancy and how Junior Consultants are required to work with us moving forward. This was also the session where they received their participation certificates for completing our Fitness Programme.

We’d like to congratulate all of our newest Junior Consultants for succeeding through our recruitment process and for completing our Fitness Programme. We look forward to working with you!
