Having a bank of great photographs to use on your social media channels is a no-brainer for small businesses – using an image when you post on Facebook increases engagement massively and Insta is all about the having quality images which stand out from the crowd. But is booking a professional an absolute must or can you get away with taking a few snaps with your phone and hoping for the best?

Writing as a small business photographer, there’s a lot I could say about the benefits of using a professional:

You’re not holding the camera so you can be in the shots – it is so important for your customers to know who you are and professional shots of you are a massive cut above the selfie.

Your photographer will work with you to understand your brand and make sure the images reflect you and your business.

The images will be super sharp and high resolution so suitable for use not just on the web but in print too – great if you are doing any print adverts.

So what are the benefits of doing it for yourself? In the early stages of launching a business budgets can be tight and you might not be able to afford to book a professional. You can get some great shots using the portrait mode on your camera and there’s a lot of information out there about how to best light and compose a shot. You can even develop your own style when it comes to your choice of filter.

While phone pics do have their place – they are quick and convenient so perfect for Insta stories to give your followers a quick update about what you’re up to – you definitely need to be using high quality images too, especially on your grid and website. If you have a DSLR lurking at the back of a cupboard, why not look that out and take your skills to the next level?

If that sounds like it might be up your street, consider booking yourself a place on the next ‘Take Great Photos for your Business’ course and let Rachel Hein Photography and I teach you how to use your DSLR camera to its full potential. Places are limited to ten so you’ll have lots of opportunities to ask questions and there is also a masterclass in content strategy from insta-expert Ailsa Graham of Flamingo Fair included in the ticket price.

You can read more and book your place here: https://take-great-photos-for-your-business-sept-2019.event – I’d love to meet you then!
