Amber Isaacs
BRT Co-ordinator
My background is in community engagement, social enterprise and the third sector more broadly, having spent 7 years working with Gorgie City Farm a year of which I was project manager of the site. The time here was hugely important to my professional and personal development, having the opportunity to start projects, develop educational programmes and test ideas all while supporting vulnerable members of the community.
My key successes from this time were in launching a food bank during the pandemic in 2020. Almost entirely run on donations from the community and volunteer support, to date the service has provided in excess of 3000+ food parcels to families in Edinburgh and the Lothians. I also developed several outdoor education programmes, which again were crucial during lockdown for keeping children and young people engaged with their community. With further experience in recruitment, copywriting, marketing, fundraising, financial monitoring, and events planning – I like to think of myself as a creative problem solver when it comes to the unforeseen challenges that can be faced in any project.
Out with BRT, I have worked on a number of projects collating, reading and editing written and visual content for different literary magazines and more recently for a Scottish book award. I've also had success in submitting my own writing for publication. Reading is my passion - so much so I started a book club called Edinburgh Queer Book & Craft - so please drop in with book recommendations and be prepared for a lengthy chat!
